Idea

Work for the Forest (WF) is a Congolese non-profit organization dedicated to combating deforestation and climate change by transforming how communities cook and use energy. The organization envisions a future where forests are preserved, carbon emissions are reduced, and households access clean, sustainable alternatives to traditional charcoal and firewood.

Challenge

Work for the Forest (WF) is addressing critical challenges that threaten both people and the environment, including rapid deforestation, high reliance on unsustainable wood-based fuels, household air pollution causing over a million premature deaths annually, and the disproportionate burden placed on women and children who spend hours collecting firewood. By tackling these issues, WF reduces poverty, improves public health, alleviates pressure on forests, and contributes to global efforts against climate change.

Solution

Work for the Forest (WF) is implementing an innovative project that converts organic waste into eco-friendly charcoal while producing improved stoves that reduce both firewood consumption and harmful emissions. By distributing these clean cooking systems and renewable energy products through local networks, WF empowers households with affordable, sustainable energy solutions, improves health outcomes for women and children, and fosters climate resilience in the Fizi territory.
