Idea

Visualible, Inc. is building a patent-pending technology and (re)publishing platform that will transform the eBook reading experience and rejuvenate the publishing industry. The tablet/desktop technology embeds links within existing eBook content that when selected initiates the display of supplemental information in an adjacent window. The ecosystem will enable the enhancement, sale, and reading of the enhanced eBooks, called "MeBooks".

Challenge

The Problem that Visualible is solving is that it is very limiting and frustrating to read a book that refers to people, places, and events outside of the book content. Book types include histories and historical novels, biographies and biographical novels, fantasy and science fiction, classical literature and religious texts. The book could also refer to additional information contained in figures, charts, diagrams, maps, endnotes, and other documents. These types include travel guides, instructional manuals, atlases, encyclopedias, and textbooks. The challenge is that these external references force a reader to make one of two choices – either disrupt reading and perform research before returning to the book or accept that this missing information cannot be obtained and continue reading with limited understanding. Both choices are frustrating and fail to meet the needs of the reader.

Solution

The Solution is Visualible, an app and ecosystem that provides a two-frame reading environment on a PC or tablet that displays eBook content on one side with pre-curated links that initiate the display of supplemental information on the other side. The links can be selected by the reader to provide extra information, such as biographies of people, descriptions of locations, map animations of events, more technical information on a topic, all without changing the reader’s location in the book. The solution includes a studio environment for creating the enhancements, a retail platform for searching for, buying, and downloading eBooks with enhancements, and a reader app for consuming the enhanced eBooks. The book types by content would include anything that would benefit from supplemental information in any format, including historical/biographical fiction/nonfiction, classical, religious, travel, textbooks, etc., that would promote "deep reading" and accessibility.

Story

I created Visualible out of the pain that I have personally experienced in reading complex books that heavily reference information not contained in the book.
