Idea

UST is a transportation system designed to transport people to different points of the city in a fast, comfortable and economical way. The cars travel on rails that are on the city streets, without affecting normal traffic at ground level. The transportation is done in such a way that only one person goes in each car, so that the journey is direct from the point of departure to the point of arrival. Each car with its passenger has a low weight, thus achieving an economical construction and the possibility of making many stations, so that the person does not have to make long trips to get to any station.


Challenge

The problem of urban transport has increased in the vast majority of cities, it is becoming more and more difficult to move around them, people losing a great deal of time to do something as ubiquitous as moving around the cities on a daily basis. Going to work and returning home has become such a serious problem for society that it has limited people's time to rest and have time for leisure activities. This problem will only increase over time if a practical solution cannot be found.


Solution

The proposed solution is to create a transportation system that moves suspended over the city, so that it does not suffer the delays that occur with current transportation systems such as buses, cars, etc. It should be very light so that it does not involve large infrastructures that generate high costs, such as the case of subways or trains. With a small size so that the available spaces can be taken advantage of, for example it can be used where an electrical line runs on poles, the proposed system can be placed on the space required by a sidewalk or even on the current streets themselves. Despite being individual, the cost of transportation is not expensive because the energy required is low, and it uses electricity, does not emit gases and does not require batteries, which helps to keep the equipment price low.


Story

Many years ago, in 1990, at the bus stop next to the park in San Pedro de Montes de Oca, Costa Rica, rambling on the problem for people of crossing a street with a lot of vehicles, I thought about an automatic system that would pass above the street, without requiring people to walk. The solution was extended from a few meters between the two sidewalks of the street to kilometers until it ended up with the proposal presented in this project.
