Idea

After a successful two-year pilot, So Tasty has rapidly scaled to feed over 2.1 million schoolchildren weekly across five provinces. With this growth, the company has transitioned into a new investor-ready structure, de-risking the corporate group and positioning it for national expansion, increased investor interest, and sustainable long-term impact. The goal is to feed 7 million children through the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) and extend operations into retail, export, and broader food security initiatives. The company aims to achieve an EBIT of over R350 million within 60 months. This high-margin, fast-moving consumer business has proven execution capabilities, and a capital raise of R55 million is underway to fund its next phase of growth.

Challenge

So Tasty Holdings (Pty) Ltd operates as the holding company and equity investment vehicle, owning 100% of the following entities:

So Tasty Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd: Handles all food production and operations, with factories in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and plans for a 17,000m² production facility by 2027.

So Tasty Sales & Marketing (Pty) Ltd: Manages revenue generation and client engagement across multiple revenue streams, including the NSNP, national and informal retail markets, and regional export opportunities.
This structured group allows for extensive scalability across verticals and geographies, creating jobs and enhancing food security. With 221 direct jobs created, including 61 in food production and 120 in cooking kitchens, So Tasty is contributing to economic growth and social well-being.

Solution

So Tasty offers a unique solution to meet the government-mandated threshold of feeding a child for under R4.00/day. The company uses world-class High Pressure Processing (HPP) technology, which pasteurizes products while enabling the use of innovative, cost-effective packaging formats that are far superior in quality compared to competitors. The technology also ensures that taste is a critical focus. The company's extensive distribution network delivers refrigerated products directly to schools, a first for the NSNP, ensuring fresh meals. With a monthly processing capacity of almost 4.2 million kilograms, So Tasty is poised to become the largest producer of pre-cooked ready-to-eat products for the NSNP in the country.
