Idea

S-KIA Agro is an integrated vegetable farming startup designed to develop off-season agricultural production in the Kaolack region of Senegal, specifically in Ndindy village. The company’s core idea is to transition from traditional, rain-dependent subsistence farming to a modern, structured, and market-oriented agricultural model. By cultivating high-demand vegetable crops such as onions, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, potatoes, and okra, S-KIA Agro aims to improve food availability, create sustainable income opportunities, and reposition agriculture as a viable and profitable sector for young people.

Challenge

S-KIA Agro is addressing critical socio-economic challenges including rural exodus, youth unemployment, food insecurity, and the rising cost of agricultural products. Despite the fact that a majority of the population depends on agriculture, low productivity and outdated practices limit profitability and discourage young people from entering the sector. By offering employment, skills development, and a profitable agricultural model, S-KIA Agro directly responds to these challenges and contributes to food self-sufficiency, poverty reduction, and sustainable rural development.

Solution

S-KIA Agro is a practical and scalable solution that establishes a professionally managed vegetable farm combining technical expertise, trained labor, and appropriate agricultural inputs. The project leverages the promoter’s experience in vegetable farming and entrepreneurship to implement modern cultivation techniques over an initial area of five hectares, with planned expansion. Through training, job creation, and the use of improved seeds, equipment, and off-season production methods, the company increases productivity, stabilizes yields, and ensures consistent market supply while empowering local youth and fostering micro-entrepreneurship.
