Idea

Mizan Eco Industry S.A.R.L is a green energy transformation company established to produce and commercialize biochar, also known as green charcoal. This eco-friendly charcoal is made from biodegradable residues rich in carbon, primarily agricultural waste, and serves as a sustainable alternative to traditional wood charcoal. Shaped into briquettes or balls, biochar can be used in households, restaurants, hotels, and even for shisha lighting in Djibouti, offering an affordable and cleaner energy solution.

Challenge

Mizan Eco Industry S.A.R.L is tackling the challenges of high dependency on expensive, low-quality, and irregularly supplied wood charcoal in Djibouti. The company is entering a market where households often pay high prices or resort to cutting trees for fuel, which worsens environmental degradation. The main challenge lies in shifting consumer habits toward adopting biochar as a daily solution, while competing against the entrenched wood charcoal market. However, with its superior quality, affordability, and positive impact on health and the environment, biochar positions itself as a viable and sustainable alternative.

Solution

Mizan Eco Industry S.A.R.L is providing an innovative solution that addresses both environmental and socio-economic needs. By transforming agricultural residues into biochar, the company creates a renewable source of energy that reduces deforestation, lowers carbon emissions, and improves air quality. At the same time, the project supports local industry growth, generates jobs, contributes to poverty reduction, strengthens Djibouti’s private sector, and ensures access to high-quality products at competitive prices for households and businesses.
