Idea

LEGACY is an industrial hygiene product startup based in Dakar, Senegal, focused on designing and producing innovative, locally made items such as fruity-scented handkerchiefs, baby diapers, and sanitary towels. With Senegal’s rapidly growing, youthful population and high unemployment rates, the project aims not only to offer high-quality hygiene products but also to generate substantial employment and stimulate local industry.

Challenge

Senegal faces two major challenges: a lack of employment opportunities, particularly for its youth and women, and limited access to high-quality, affordable hygiene products. Existing tissues and similar items in the market often lack durability and comfort, leading to user dissatisfaction. Additionally, much of the supply is imported, creating affordability issues and economic leakage. LEGACY confronts these challenges head-on by launching a locally grounded production facility that addresses both employment needs and product quality gaps using natural, consumer-friendly innovations.

Solution

LEGACY will address the hygiene product gap in Senegal by introducing a phased manufacturing plan starting with uniquely designed handkerchiefs, colored and fruit-scented, for a refreshing user experience. This will be followed by the production of diapers and sanitary napkins.
