Idea

Jambo Cruise Adventures LTD is a tourism-focused company founded in 2020 by Calvin Oyuga Odhiambo, a marine professional originally from Kenya and currently based in Sweden. Driven by a passion for modern, safe, and experiential marine tourism, the company aims to revolutionize cruise safaris along the East African coast. Starting with a floating restaurant, Jambo Cruise is now developing a state-of-the-art tiki cruise vessel with a 60-guest capacity, complete with amenities like a kitchen and restroom onboard. The company’s mission is to create a unique dining and leisure experience on water, partnering with hotels and tour operators to boost sustainable tourism.

Challenge

Jambo Cruise Adventures LTD is addressing the challenges of outdated and unsafe marine tourism experiences in East Africa. Traditional cruise activities still rely on colonial-era dhows that are often overcrowded, lacking comfort, safety, and modern appeal. This has limited the region’s ability to fully capitalize on the potential of cruise tourism, especially compared to other parts of Africa. Jambo Cruise is stepping in to bridge this gap by offering vessels designed for today’s safety standards and customer expectations, targeting both local and international tourists seeking premium experiences.

Solution

Jambo Cruise Adventures LTD is providing a much-needed solution to the gaps in East Africa’s cruise tourism sector. As someone with extensive experience in the marine industry, I realized that traditional cruise vessels in the region were outdated, overcrowded, and lacking in comfort and safety. To address this, we are introducing a new generation of cruise vessels—modern, safe, and designed to offer a unique experience to our guests. Our tiki cruise vessels, with a capacity for 60 guests, come with high-end amenities, including a kitchen and restroom onboard, offering a level of comfort not previously available in the region’s marine tourism. By partnering with hotels and tour operators, we aim to provide an unforgettable, premium experience while supporting sustainable tourism growth in East Africa. This initiative not only fills a major gap in the market but also opens up opportunities for employment and economic development, ensuring that our project benefits both the local communities and the tourism sector as a whole.
