Idea

J & J Power is a subsidiary of J & J Emigration and Consultancy Services (PVT) LTD that is planning to construct, operate, and own a 150 MW PV Solar Ground-Mounted Power Plant in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). This initiative is part of Sri Lanka's strategy to increase its renewable energy generation to 70% by 2030. The total investment for this project is expected to be around USD $150 million. The solar plant will contribute significantly to the national grid and align with the Long-Term Generation Expansion Plan (LTGEP) of CEB, with the goal of advancing the country’s renewable energy capabilities.

Challenge

J & J Power is addressing several challenges faced by Sri Lanka's energy sector. The country has been experiencing rising energy demand, which is often met with reliance on fossil fuels, resulting in higher carbon emissions and foreign exchange dependency. Additionally, Sri Lanka's hydropower systems have faced challenges due to droughts and deforestation, further complicating the energy supply. By introducing solar power, J & J Power offers an indigenous, renewable energy source that mitigates environmental impact, reduces foreign exchange reliance, and aligns with global climate change goals. The project aims to provide a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solution for Sri Lanka’s future.

Solution

J & J Power offers an innovative solution to the country's growing energy demands by focusing on clean, sustainable energy. The proposed 150 MW Solar PV Power Plant will be equipped with high-quality solar panels and inverters sourced from global tier-one manufacturers. The plant will use fixed solar arrays, optimized to maximize energy collection through maximum power point tracking (MPPT). This solution supports the Sri Lankan government's goal of reducing dependency on fossil fuels and providing cleaner energy alternatives that align with environmental and energy policy objectives, thereby contributing to the country's sustainable growth and energy independence.
