Idea

Green Smart City is a large-scale sustainable urban development planned in Mazara del Vallo and developed by Green Smart City Management Ltd as a €6.5B investment initiative. The project envisions a Mediterranean innovation hub that merges ecological living, digital infrastructure, and economic regeneration. It combines urban life with rural production — including agriculture, marine activities, research centers, and premium housing, to attract global talent, startups, universities, and investors while positioning the territory as a future European technology and lifestyle destination.

Challenge

Green Smart City addresses regional economic decline and global urban pressures such as pollution, resource scarcity, inefficient infrastructure, and social inequality. The project aims to reduce unemployment, modernize agriculture and tourism, and limit environmental impact through net-zero construction and digital governance. By creating jobs, attracting investment, and integrating traditional sectors into a technology-driven ecosystem, it seeks to reverse population outflow and provide a scalable model for sustainable city development applicable to other regions worldwide.

Solution

Green Smart City is an integrated smart-territory ecosystem that deploys renewable energy systems, AI-enabled urban management, and diversified economic sectors to operate as a self-sufficient city. The plan includes bioclimatic residences, university and medical campuses, coworking spaces, tourism infrastructure, and clean mobility networks. Through real-time data platforms, open-data governance, circular water and waste management, and intelligent transport, the city functions as a living laboratory where sustainability, innovation, and economic productivity operate together to deliver high quality of life and long-term financial performance.
