Idea

E-Sam Energy is on a mission to revolutionize energy access in Nigeria by deploying 3,000 units of Solar Home Systems (SHS) to civil servants across Kaduna State under the “Solar for All” initiative. With a vision to empower underserved communities, the company aims to provide clean, affordable, and reliable energy to households that currently experience just 2–3 hours of electricity daily. By May 2025, E-Sam Energy will take a major step toward powering Nigerian homes through innovative solar solutions, setting a benchmark for scalable, off-grid energy interventions in West Africa.

Challenge

E-Sam Energy is directly tackling the chronic under-electrification of Nigerian households, especially in regions like Kaduna State where millions remain unserved or underserved by the national grid. With fuel prices and electricity tariffs rising, and average grid supply lingering at a mere few hours daily, the need for decentralized, sustainable alternatives is critical. E-Sam Energy also responds to the urgent global calls under SDG 7 and SDG 13—promoting affordable, modern energy and climate action—while creating up to 150 jobs for women and youth and enhancing economic resilience through clean energy access.

Solution

E-Sam Energy is addressing the persistent electricity crisis in Kaduna State with the deployment of all-in-one Solar Home Systems, featuring in-built inverters, charge controllers, and lithium batteries. These systems convert sunlight into electricity while offering remote monitoring, troubleshooting, and power management functionalities. By the end of Year 3, the project will reach 15,000 beneficiaries, deliver 10MW of solar PV capacity, and eliminate 4,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, while generating an estimated $2 million in energy cost savings.
