Idea

Community Emergency Response and Development (CERD) is a non-profit humanitarian and development organization founded in 2022 and officially registered with the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) and other relevant government ministries in South Sudan. CERD was established to empower youth, women, and marginalized communities through inclusive, community-driven initiatives that build resilience and promote sustainable development. By operating across rural and displacement settings, CERD integrates traditional knowledge with innovative solutions to create meaningful, lasting impact.

Challenge

CERD addresses urgent humanitarian and development challenges in South Sudan, including limited access to clean water, food insecurity, displacement due to conflict and flooding, and rising cases of gender-based violence. Funding constraints have also posed significant barriers to scaling our impact and reaching more affected populations. To bridge this gap, CERD aims to raise USD 750,000 to support critical interventions in WASH, food security and livelihoods, GBV protection, and peacebuilding—ensuring that vulnerable communities receive the assistance they urgently need.

Solution

CERD provides locally driven, practical solutions that enable communities to address their own social, economic, and developmental challenges. Our approach focuses on building local capacity through programs in peacebuilding, water and sanitation (WASH), food security, gender-based violence (GBV) protection, and livelihood development. By fostering collaboration, education, and empowerment, CERD helps transform vulnerable communities into self-reliant, sustainable societies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
