Idea

APDEV (Peasant Action for Development) is launching the APDEV Digital House Creation project in the Democratic Republic of Congo with the goal of establishing an integrated digital and real estate initiative beginning in Kinshasa. The concept centers on building a flagship digital hub that will serve as a commercial platform for high-tech mobile phones and innovative mobile applications, while simultaneously expanding into property development through the construction of rental housing. The long-term vision includes replicating this digital house model across multiple provinces in the DRC to create a scalable, revenue-generating network.

Challenge

APDEV (Peasant Action for Development) is addressing key socioeconomic challenges in the DRC, including limited access to modern digital technology, insufficient distribution of innovative mobile applications, unemployment, and inadequate housing infrastructure. By creating digital houses and expanding into property rental development, the organization aims to stimulate local economic activity, create jobs, improve access to high-tech products, and strengthen community-level economic resilience. The initiative responds to gaps in digital inclusion and housing supply while leveraging APDEV’s existing legal framework, land assets, and stakeholder partnerships to drive sustainable development outcomes.

Solution

APDEV (Peasant Action for Development) is implementing a phased solution that combines digital commerce infrastructure with physical asset development. The project will begin with the establishment of a coordination office, acquisition of operational equipment, field prospecting, and land purchases in Kinshasa and other towns. The first APDEV Digital House will be constructed as a central hub for technology sales and services, followed by the development of rental housing units to generate sustainable income streams. Through structured monitoring, partnerships with organizations such as SEC and RIADD, and strategic investment of the proposed $100,000+ budget, APDEV intends to operationalize both its digital marketplace and real estate components.
