Idea

Adocat Diamonds (Private) Limited is a Zimbabwe-based company dedicated to transforming low-quality and industrial-grade diamonds into high-value gemstones through advanced purification and color-enhancement technology. Recognizing that the era of simple resale has passed, the company aims to establish a specialized laboratory capable of refining diamonds with heavy inclusions, opacity, or surface contamination into stones suitable for jewelry or high-end industrial applications. The project leverages over two decades of research into proprietary processing methods, a capability currently possessed by only two other companies globally.

Challenge

Adocat Diamonds (Private) Limited is addressing the global shortage of advanced facilities capable of economically upgrading low-grade diamonds—a market dominated by just two international players. Without access to purification technology, many diamond producers must sell their lower-quality stones at deep discounts, missing out on significant added value. The company also tackles the inefficiencies in Zimbabwe’s gem export potential by creating a licensed, technologically advanced processing hub that can transform undervalued stones into premium products, increasing national revenue and opening new market opportunities.

Solution

Adocat Diamonds (Private) Limited is developing a fully equipped laboratory that uses a multi-stage process involving strong acid mixtures, high temperature, high pressure, and microwave treatment to remove mineral, organic, and bituminous impurities from diamonds. This deep-cleaning method significantly improves the clarity, color, and value of low-quality diamonds, unlocking profit margins of 100% to 400% per lot. With a secure supply chain through state agreements, a government-issued license, and Kimberley certification, the company will process and export refined diamonds globally, with potential expansion into polishing workshops and processing of other gemstones like rubies, emeralds, and sapphires.
